When new clients tell me that they are Christians or have some measure of faith in God, I inwardly breathe a sigh of relief. Although they may come with the most serious emotional and relational problems in life, at least their faith can be an invaluable resource in changing their lives. They may have gotten way off course in life, but Christians always have a reference point to guide them in their life decisions and conduct.
I count it a privilege to help fellow believers change their lives and heal their relationships. The Bible says to "rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." Both of these happen in counseling, but I especially enjoy seeing my client's lives change from mourning to rejoicing. Amazing changes can happen when believers commit themselves and their marriages to God's help. I know that God can often use counseling to help change lives.
I've had a private practice in Pasadena for twenty years. I offer individual counseling for adults, pre-marital counseling for engaged couples, and marriage counseling for spouses that want to restore the love in their lives.
I am a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary (one block from my office) in Pasadena, and have taught at Fuller as an adjunct professor in a class called Men in Difficult Times. I have extensive work in understanding and helping Christian men and their marriages. I also have a strong interest in raising boys to become successful men and husbands. Too many men have never grown out of boyhood, and their wives and children are paying a heavy price for it.
I am a frequent speaker at marriage conferences and men's retreats, and enjoy speaking on issues related to Christian sex and love. I am co-author of the new book that is causing a sexual revolution in men's lives, What Wives Wish Their Husbands Knew about Sex: A Guide for Christian Men (with Ryan Howes and Stephen Simpson, Baker Books, 2007). The book is down-to-earth, funny, and full of biblical and psychological insights for the best sex life in the world for men. Wives tell me that they love the book too!
